If Marvel Rivals will not launch or keeps crashing on PC, the first thing the official guides point to is a game file integrity check in your launcher, followed by a clean-install update of your graphics driver. The official documents do not name any single cause as the most common one, so this page lets you match your symptom in the table and then work through the steps in the order the official FAQ lists them. It covers the PC (Windows) version and reflects the documents as checked on October 6, 2026. The official FAQ was posted on December 1, 2024 and we could not confirm whether it has been revised since, so read it as the official FAQ as published. If the game only crashes while a recorder is running, see what to check when a game crashes while recording alongside this page.
What the official FAQ says to check for each symptom
| Symptom | What the official documents say to check | Source document |
|---|---|---|
| 'DirectX 12 is not supported on your system' error | Update to Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer), update the graphics driver, and confirm the PC meets the requirements. | Common Technical Issues FAQ |
| Crash with 'Out of Video Memory' on a 13th/14th Gen Intel CPU, or a crash during shader compilation | Update the BIOS following Intel or the motherboard maker. If it continues, contact the OEM, Intel support or the retailer. | Common Technical Issues FAQ, Intel CPU Crash Troubleshooting Guide |
| Frequent crashes during matches | Integrity check and repair, then GPU Debug Mode with a clean driver reinstall, then the antivirus allow list, and finally the optional Switch Shader Compilation Mode in the launcher, in that order. | Common Technical Issues FAQ |
| Crash right after launch or while joining a match | Add the game folder and Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe to the antivirus and firewall allow list. The FAQ also mentions temporarily disabling antivirus. | Common Technical Issues FAQ |
| Stuttering during gameplay | Clean-reinstall the latest GPU driver, then set Marvel Rivals to High performance under Windows Settings, System, Display, Graphics. | Common Technical Issues FAQ |
The short answer: integrity check, then driver
The order is simple: run the integrity check first, then bring the graphics driver up to date, and only move on to the later steps if those two do not help. Changing several things at once makes it impossible to tell which one worked. If your problem is stuttering rather than crashing, the official FAQ's 'Stuttering During Gameplay' entry points to a clean reinstall of the latest GPU driver and setting Marvel Rivals to High performance in the Windows Graphics settings. Frame drops that appear only while recording are covered in our guide to recording stutter.
Troubleshooting order based on the official documents
- 1Compare against the listed requirements — The minimum requirements on the Steam store page (as checked on October 6, 2026) list Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer) and DirectX 12. This guide does not repeat the whole requirements table. Use it only to confirm the OS version and DirectX 12 support when you see an error like 'DirectX 12 is not supported on your system'. The store page also advises installing the game on an SSD for a better experience.
- 2Run the integrity check in your launcher — On Steam, open the 'Installed Files' tab, choose 'Verify Integrity of Game Files' and wait for it to finish; if files are damaged or missing, wait until the needed files have been downloaded. On Epic Games, right-click 'MarvelRivals' in the library, then choose 'Manage' and 'Verify'. On Loading Bay, NetEase's Windows launcher, use the options button and select 'Verify File Intergrity', spelled exactly as on the official page. Launch the game again when it completes.
- 3Clean-install the latest graphics driver — Download the newest driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel and install it in clean-installation mode, as the official FAQ says. For NVIDIA cards, a June 24, 2025 announcement strongly recommended GeForce Game Ready Driver 576.80 or later through the NVIDIA App. That number reflects the time of the post, so simply take the latest driver now. An August 19, 2025 announcement says a hotfix was deployed for client freezes and GPU crashes after enabling NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation, and tells players to contact support if similar problems continue.
- 4Start with GPU Debug Mode — Launch the game with the 'Start With GPU Debug Mode' button in the launcher. According to the official guide this mode can affect performance, but you can turn it off at any time. The same guide includes a procedure for NVIDIA users that changes Shader Cache Size and deletes the DXCache folder. Because that involves deleting a folder by hand, this page does not walk through it; read the official guide and decide for yourself.
- 5Add the game to your antivirus and firewall allow list — The official FAQ tells you to add the game's install folder and ~\Marvel\Binaries\Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe to the antivirus and firewall allow list. The FAQ also mentions disabling antivirus temporarily, but adding the allow-list entry comes first, and if you do switch protection off to test, keep it off only briefly and turn it back on. Menu names differ between antivirus products, so follow your product's own help.
- 6Try Switch Shader Compilation Mode — This experimental feature, introduced in an April 2025 announcement, is enabled from the PC launcher, and the official FAQ mentions it last, with 'You can also try', after the GPU Debug Mode, driver and antivirus steps. The announcement recommends it for players with 16 GB of RAM or less who had large FPS drops, freezes or frequent crashes in an earlier season. Expect that materials may render oddly for a moment or stutter slightly when a new match starts, and that using it with AMD FSR3 Frame Generation on a CPU with six threads or fewer may cause extra stuttering. The announcement does not give the exact launcher menu path, so look for it in the launcher, and contact support if problems appear.
- 7On a 13th/14th Gen Intel CPU, update the BIOS — The official guide targets Intel 13th and 14th Gen users with stability issues, low VRAM warnings or crashes during shader compilation. Update the BIOS following Intel or your motherboard maker, and if the problem continues contact the system maker, Intel support or the retailer. The same guide includes a step that lowers the core ratio in Intel XTU, but that changes CPU settings, so this page does not walk through it. Always follow the manufacturer's procedure for a BIOS update.
Checklist before you contact support
- I checked the store minimums: Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer) and DirectX 12.
- I finished the integrity check in the launcher I actually use (Steam, Epic Games or Loading Bay).
- I installed the latest graphics driver from the maker's site or the NVIDIA App.
- I launched with GPU Debug Mode and wrote down the result.
- I added the game folder and Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe to the antivirus and firewall allow list, and if needed I tried Switch Shader Compilation Mode separately and wrote down the result.
- I wrote down the error text, when the crash happens (at launch, joining a match, during shader compilation) and my CPU and GPU models.
If you record your Marvel Rivals matches
DOR is a free Windows recording app, and Marvel Rivals is supported with automatic full-match recording only; there are no automatic highlight clips for this game. Everything above is official guidance about the game itself, and none of it means DOR fixes crashes. The official documents this guide draws on do not describe conflicts with recording software, so if the game closes unexpectedly, first check whether the same crash happens with the recording app fully closed. That separates a game problem from a recording problem. If the recorder does not pick up the game at all, see what to do when a recorder does not detect your game. On an NVIDIA graphics card DOR uses NVENC hardware encoding by default, so after updating the driver you can record a short match to confirm recording still starts the way it normally does.
