Phasmophobia is a co-op horror game where up to four players walk into a haunted location and gather evidence with ghost-hunting gear, so the moments worth showing friends tend to happen without warning. Surviving a hunt inside a closet or hearing the spirit box answer can't be staged again, which means the whole investigation has to be on tape if you want to pull it out later. Starting with the October 2026 app update, DOR detects Phasmophobia automatically and records the entire session, so this guide only covers finding, cutting, and sending scenes from that recording.
How the recording works first
Phasmophobia isn't split by match. Everything from the moment you launch the game to the moment you close it is saved as a single mp4. Time in the lobby picking gear, waiting in the truck, and several investigations all run together in one file, so knowing where to look is half the job. For setting the exact start and end of a scene, see How to Trim Game Clips.
From a Phasmophobia recording to a shareable clip
- 1Launch Phasmophobia with DOR installedInstall the free DOR app on your Windows PC, then launch Phasmophobia. DOR detects the game and starts recording on its own. Check once that the game is switched on under full-play recording in settings, and there is nothing else to touch after that.
- 2Jot down the time when someone screamsYour recording will be one long video covering several investigations, so note the rough time on your phone right after a hunt starts or evidence shows up. Adding which investigation it was and which location makes the scene much faster to find in the library.
- 3Use sound and flicker to locate the huntOpen the video in the library, jump near the time you noted, and look for the spot where the screen flickers or everyone's voice spikes at once. In a hunt, the quiet seconds after you hide often look scarier than the run itself, so leave plenty of room after the hide.
- 4Start evidence clips before the reactionIf you cut an EMF, thermometer, or spirit box moment at the exact reaction, the context disappears. Start from the question you asked or the moment you pulled out the gear, and keep a few seconds after the response. Friends who have never played will get why it's creepy.
- 5Trim in the library and pick a ratioIn the app library's trim tool, set the start and end and choose an output ratio. Use 16:9 to show a wide dark hallway, or 9:16 for a short reaction clip a friend will watch on a phone. When the trim finishes, a dor.gg link is created.
- 6Paste the link into your team chatSend teammates the same hunt so they can compare it with what they saw, and send a friend who missed the night a one-minute stretch that runs through the ghost call. Whoever opens the link plays it right in a browser, phone browsers included, without installing anything.
Scenes to keep at each stage of an investigation
| Investigation stage | Cue in the recording | Clip length and ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Truck and gear prep | The truck doors opening after the location select screen | 10 to 20 seconds before you head in, 16:9 |
| Evidence | The EMF reader spiking or a voice answering on the spirit box | From 5 seconds before the reaction, 20 to 30 seconds, 9:16 |
| Hunt | Flashlights and lights starting to flicker as voices get louder | From the run to the end of the hunt, about a minute, 16:9 |
| Ghost call | The team talking through the ghost type once three pieces of evidence are in | 30 seconds to a minute of the deduction, 16:9 |
| Results | The screen that shows how the investigation went | Just the results, about 10 seconds, 1:1 |
Before the investigation
- Phasmophobia is switched on under full-play recording in settings.
- If you plan several investigations in a row, the recording drive has more than 20GB of free space.
- Your mic is connected if you want your own reactions in the video.
- You have a quick way to note the time of hunts and evidence.
- You know whether the clip is for teammates or for a friend who wasn't there.
Recording Phasmophobia with DOR
DOR is a free Windows desktop app. When you launch Phasmophobia, it detects the game and records it as full play. There are no automatic clips that pick out events, but because the session is kept in one continuous video from launch to exit, a hunt that comes out of nowhere won't be missed. Recording stops automatically if free space drops below 20GB, and turning this game's recording off in settings brings up a confirmation prompt. On NVIDIA graphics cards, NVENC hardware encoding is the default, and game audio and your mic land in the same video, so your screams stay in. For balancing mic volume, see How to Record Game Sound and Mic Together. To join several scenes or add text, open the DOR Studio in your browser to adjust length, merge clips, add background music, and set volume, then download an mp4 or share a link.
