Fortnite System Requirements on PC (2026): Minimum, Recommended, and How Many GB

As of September 30, 2026, Epic Games' official PC system requirements page for Fortnite does not list an install size in GB. The minimum is a Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and Windows 10 22H2 (64-bit), while the recommended tier asks for an Nvidia GTX 960 or equivalent DX11 GPU, 16 GB of RAM or more and an NVMe solid state drive. Plenty of pages quote a storage number anyway, but none of those figures could be verified in Epic's own documents, so this guide leaves them out and shows you how to read the real number on your own PC. Everything here is PC only; console and mobile specs are separate. The short answer: your launcher shows the real size

Three points settle most questions. First, the install size is not published in GB, so the Options screen in the Epic Games Launcher is the only reliable number for your own install, because it shows how much space each feature takes. Second, minimum specs are a floor: Epic states that a PC meeting only the minimum can run Fortnite but will probably struggle on the highest settings, and that lowering graphics settings and disabling background applications helps. Third, the recommended and Epic-preset tiers both list an NVMe solid state drive, while the minimum tier has no storage row at all. How to check and shrink the install size

1. 1Read the per-feature sizes in the launcher Options — In the Epic Games Launcher go to Library, click the three dots next to Fortnite and choose Options. The screen shows how much space each install feature takes. Because the official documents give no GB figure, this is the most trustworthy number for your PC. Beyond the example Epic names, I could not confirm which other items appear on that screen.
2. 2Uncheck High Resolution Textures — On the same Options screen, unchecking High Resolution Textures saves space according to Epic's help article. Epic also notes that players who installed it can receive a larger update, which is one reason your update size may differ from a friend's. There is no official figure for the saving, so compare the numbers on the Options screen before and after the change.
3. 3Free up space on the install drive — In Windows, open Start > Settings > System > Storage > Cleanup recommendations and review temporary files, large or unused files, cloud-synced files and unused apps before deleting. When the launcher shows a disk space error before installing (IS-DS01) or during installation (IS-DS02), Epic's first instruction is also to free up drive space.
4. 4Move the install to another drive — If another drive has more room, open Download Manager in the bottom-left of the launcher, then Download Settings > General > Change to set a new Default Install Directory. The default is C:\Program Files\Epic Games. Epic also describes clicking Install in Library and choosing another location with Browse. Since the recommended tier lists an NVMe SSD, check what kind of drive you are moving to.
5. 5If the size looks wrong, run Verify and clear the web cache — Epic explains that a communication error can make file sizes appear larger than they really are. In Library, click the three dots on the game, then Manage > Verify; it does not touch your saved data but can take a while. If the number is still odd, close the launcher completely, delete the webcache, webcache_4147 and webcache_4430 folders under %localappdata% > EpicGamesLauncher > Saved, and restart it.

Checklist: does your PC meet the specs?

• Open System Information from the Start menu and compare the OS, processor and memory in System Summary with the table above (Epic's own verification path).
• Click the + next to Components and open Display to read your video card name.
• Type dxdiag into the taskbar search, run it, and read the DirectX version under System Information on the System tab. The recommended tier assumes a DX11 GPU.
• Use Save All Information... in dxdiag to store a diagnostic file you can share when asking for help.
• Confirm you run 64-bit Windows that matches the minimum tier's Windows 10 22H2 (or Enterprise 21H2) entry. Windows 11 appears only in the recommended and Epic tiers, and the document says nothing about it for the minimum tier.
• Easy Anti-Cheat is required to play. If you skipped it during installation, click Yes on the Windows installation prompt the first time you launch Fortnite.

If you want to record while Fortnite runs

DOR is a Windows desktop app that detects a Fortnite match, saves the full match as an mp4 and automatically cuts kills and other highlight moments into clips (PC only). On a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, encoding is handled by the card's NVENC hardware encoder by default, and DOR records game audio and your microphone at the same time, so squad chatter ends up in the file too. Epic's specs describe the game alone, though, so whether a machine near the minimum has room left for recording is a separate question, and this article gives no DOR requirements or file sizes. Storage works the same way: the game install and your recordings use space separately, so count them apart.
