At some point in Overwatch 2 a thought creeps in. If your aim keeps sailing past targets, or you keep dying while trying to turn on someone who flanked you, it may not be purely a skill issue. There is a good chance your sensitivity simply does not match how you play right now.
The trouble is that sensitivity advice is unusually tangled. One person tells you to run 5 at 800 DPI, another insists 400 DPI is the standard. The problem is that those numbers are being stated against different baselines. Why Sensitivity Matters So Much in Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 mixes heroes with completely different aiming styles into a single game. Broadly, they split into tracking and flicking. Tracking means keeping your crosshair glued to a moving enemy as they move, while flicking means throwing your crosshair instantly onto a target point.
These two styles want nearly opposite sensitivities. Tracking depends on fine wrist and arm control, which favors lower sensitivity, while flicking has to cover wide angles in short distances, so going too low pushes your arm off the edge of the pad. Measuring is not hard. Mark a starting point on your pad, line your crosshair up on a piece of scenery in game, then push the mouse in one direction and measure the distance until you return to exactly that point. If you cannot do it in one pass, measure a half turn and double it.
cm/360 is useful because it directly reflects your pad size and grip style. No matter how ideal your eDPI looks, if a full rotation requires more distance than your pad is wide, it is not a usable sensitivity in a real match. Projectile Heroes
Projectile heroes, whose shots have travel time, depend on predictive aim, calculating where an enemy will be and firing there. Because you spend more time throwing your crosshair into empty space ahead of the target than locking it onto the target itself, extremely low sensitivity can feel sluggish instead.
High-Mobility Heroes
Heroes who reposition quickly by wall climbing, teleporting, or diving live and die on their ability to swing their view. If checking behind you takes two or three lifts of the mouse, the situation is already over by the time you get there. If these are your mains, either bump your sensitivity up a little or keep it low while securing a wide pad and a consistent lifting motion.
What Range Do Pro Players Generally Use?
Memorizing specific players' names and exact numbers is not particularly meaningful. Values change when gear changes, and more importantly they are tuned to that person's build and posture. Zoom out, though, and these trends appear.

- Mobility-focused roles and supports often run less extreme sensitivity because of how much they need to check their surroundings

- If there is one thing they share, it is that most of them keep the same sensitivity for a long time
That last point is actually the most important one. Copying a pro's sensitivity does not work because what makes them good is not the number but the thousands of hours they spent adapting to it. Use other people's values as a reference range and make the final call with your own hand.
A Step-by-Step Process for Finding Your Sensitivity
Finding your sensitivity should be approached as a process rather than a hunch. Work through the following order.
- Step 1. Measure and record your current eDPI and cm/360. Without a known starting point you cannot interpret the results of any adjustment.
- Step 2. Identify the two or three heroes you have played most across your last 30 games. Tune your sensitivity around your main heroes.
- Step 3. Spend a set amount of time in the practice range or a custom game testing both static and moving targets.
- Step 4. If you overshoot targets frequently, lower the sensitivity. If you undershoot or your view swings feel sluggish, raise it.
- Step 5. Limit each adjustment to about 10 percent. Change too much at once and you will not know what caused the improvement.
- Step 6. Hold the new value for at least several days to a week. Awkwardness in the first few days is far more likely to be adaptation than a bad sensitivity.
- Step 7. Review your actual results over that period and decide whether to keep it or revert.

- Check whether your crosshair trembles slightly while aiming at long range.
- Comparisons are only meaningful when you group fights from the same hero at similar ranges.
The screen is more accurate than your gut. Right after a change it is easy to feel like things got worse purely because the setting is unfamiliar, when the clips often show that your aim path actually improved. The reverse happens too: something feels comfortable while you are quietly overshooting the whole time, and only the footage catches it.
