Bottom line: 65 GB free, on an SSD
The key point is that 65 GB is the free space Ubisoft says you need, not a confirmed install size. A single official figure for how much disk space the game occupies after installation could not be verified, so this guide does not call 65 GB the install size. Steam lists access to the game as free, with some features paid, so if you were hesitating because you did not know how big it is, compare your PC to the table above first. Ubisoft rebranded the game as Rainbow Six Siege X on June 10, 2025, but the help article and store page still use the title Rainbow Six Siege, so this guide follows that wording and uses PC figures only, with no console numbers mixed in. If your hardware is tight, recording on a low-end PC is worth a look.
How to check your PC and free up space
- 1Pick the configuration that matches your target — Decide on the resolution and frame rate you want first. Ubisoft splits its list into 1080p 60 FPS minimum and recommended, 1440p 60 FPS (2K), 2160p 60 FPS (4K), and 2160p 120 FPS Ultra. Use the processor and graphics card in the row that matches your goal.
- 2Run dxdiag for OS, processor, memory, and DirectX — Type dxdiag into the taskbar search box and open it. On the System tab, under System Information, read the operating system, processor, memory, and DirectX version. On first launch it may ask whether to check that your drivers are signed.
- 3Compare your graphics card using the saved report — Use Save All Information... in dxdiag and read the graphics entries in the saved report against the models in the table. The official list says 'or better', so an equal or faster card is fine. Ubisoft also notes that laptop video cards may work if their performance is similar to the minimum requirements.
- 4Make room on an SSD — Confirm the drive you install to is an SSD with at least 65 GB free. For the Steam version, open Settings and then the Storage tab to see your default install drive, and move an installed game by choosing its drive and pressing Move.
- 5Decide what to trust when two official pages differ — The Steam store recommended entry and the Ubisoft Help article do not match in a couple of places. Treat Ubisoft Help as the main reference, but if you install through Steam, read the store listing too and prepare for the more generous of the two.
- 6Follow the official steps if problems continue — If you hit launch errors or low frame rates, start with Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege troubleshooting article. If it persists on PC and you contact support, Ubisoft asks you to attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports to your case.

- Your operating system is Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
- You have at least 8 GB of RAM (Ubisoft's recommended entry is 16 GB).
- dxdiag shows DirectX 12 or newer.
- Your graphics card matches or beats the model in your target row.
- The install drive is an SSD with 65 GB free (110 GB for 4K 120 FPS Ultra).

What to plan for if you record Siege
If you intend to record your matches, remember that recording adds load and storage needs on top of the game's own requirements. The DOR app for Windows detects Rainbow Six Siege as a supported game and automatically records the full match as an mp4. Siege is a full-match recording game only, with no automatic highlight clips, so the moments you want to keep are trimmed by hand with the library's trim tool or in DOR Studio in your browser, then shared through a dor.gg link. On an NVIDIA graphics card, NVENC hardware encoding is the default, so the encoding work goes to the card's encoder, and DOR can capture game sound and your microphone at the same time, which keeps your callouts in the clip. Because Ubisoft requires an SSD, budget the space for recorded files on that same drive on top of the game's 65 GB.
