Resident Evil 4 is the survival horror remake in which, six years after Raccoon City, Leon S. Kennedy follows the president's kidnapped daughter to a secluded European village. Parrying a chainsaw with your knife, following a headshot with a kick, or finally beating a boss after dying to it again and again are scenes you want friends to see. But it's a story game, and sending any random scene can spoil it for a friend who hasn't played. Starting with the October 2026 app update, DOR detects the game and records the whole session, so this guide covers picking scenes from that recording and cutting them to suit who's watching.
One session is one video
Resident Evil 4 isn't split by chapter or boss fight. Everything from launch to exit is saved as one mp4. Every retry after dying to the same boss runs together in that file, so the first job is finding the attempt you actually won. If you want to combine boss fights from several sessions into one video, see the order of steps in How to Merge Game Clips.
From a Resident Evil 4 recording to a shareable clip
- 1Install DOR and launch Resident Evil 4Install the free DOR app on your Windows PC and launch Resident Evil 4. DOR detects the game and starts recording automatically. Check that the game is on under full-play recording in settings, and there's nothing to worry about while you play.
- 2Note the boss fight time and attempt countTough bosses take several tries, so note when the boss cutscene started and which attempt you won on. Counting once each time the retry screen appears after a death makes it easy to pinpoint where the winning attempt sits.
- 3Keep only the winning attempt and trim the cutsceneJump to the noted spot in the library and select from the start of the final attempt to the moment the boss goes down. A few seconds of the pre-fight cutscene is enough for friends who've already cleared it; for a friend who hasn't, drop the cutscene and keep just the fight.
- 4Cut parry and kick combos into 10-second clipsCombos like a knife parry or a headshot into a kick have little to do with the story, which makes them the easiest scenes to send. Trim from just before the attack lands to the end of the combo, about 10 seconds, and export in 9:16 so the move reads well on a phone.
- 5Trim in the library and get a dor.gg linkIn the app library's trim tool, set the start and end and choose 16:9, 9:16, or 1:1. For scenes where the surroundings matter, like the dark castle interior, 16:9 works better. When the trim is done, a dor.gg link is created, and the recipient opens it in a browser without the app.
- 6Split what you send by how far friends have playedSend the full boss fight to friends who've seen the ending, and only the combat combo clips to a friend who's still in the village. Add a line in your message saying which area the scene is from, so friends who want to avoid spoilers can decide first.
What to keep in each area and what to consider before sending
| Area | Scene to keep | What to consider before sending |
|---|---|---|
| Early village | Holding out against the villagers in the first assault | Early enough that spoilers are minimal, so it's fine for anyone, about a minute |
| Village lake and chief | The Del Lago or Mendez boss fight | Shows the boss, so send it to friends who've cleared it, winning attempt only |
| Castle | The Salazar fight and pushing forward while protecting Ashley | Mid-game story is visible, so send it to friends at a similar point |
| Island | The showdown with Krauser | Parry timing is the point, so use a longer 16:9 clip for friends who'll study it |
| Any area | Combat combos like a knife parry or a headshot into a kick | Almost no spoilers, so a short 9:16 clip works for anyone |
| Merchant | Right after selling treasure and upgrading a weapon | 20 seconds for friends comparing loadouts |

Recording Resident Evil 4 with DOR
DOR is a free Windows desktop app. When you launch Resident Evil 4, it detects the game and records it as full play. There are no automatic clips that pick out boss kills or parries, but because everything from launch to exit stays in one video, combos that are hard to pull off twice aren't lost. Long play fills the disk quickly, and recording stops automatically once free space drops below 20GB. You can also turn recording off for just this game in settings, and a confirmation prompt appears when you do. On NVIDIA graphics cards, NVENC hardware encoding is the default, and game audio and your mic are recorded together. For how the editor lays out joining several boss fights and adding text or effect templates, see The DOR Browser Clip Editor. Videos made in the studio can be downloaded as mp4 or shared as a link.
