Searches like 'Insights Capture not recording Valorant', 'Insights Capture not auto recording Valorant' or 'Insights Capture Valorant settings' usually describe the same moment: you finish a match, open your library, and there is no new video, or only a short highlight where the full game should be. Insights Capture is a game recording app made by Insights Gaming, and in 2026 it comes in two forms. Overwolf's store page lists an Overwolf Client build and an Electron build side by side, and Insights describes its V3 release as a stand-alone app that no longer needs Overwolf. That split matters, because Overwolf's support articles are written for apps that run in the Overwolf client, so this guide marks the fixes taken from them as Overwolf build checks. This guide takes the fixes from Insights' own help center (its articles on auto recording, manual recording, highlights, hotkey clips, the 'Why isn't Insights Capture working?' FAQ and frozen recordings) and from Overwolf's support articles, and puts them in one order you can follow. It does not guess at how Insights Capture works internally; every step is something you can see and change on your own PC. Menu names can differ between versions and languages, and everything here was checked on October 16, 2026. If the app you actually use is Valorant Tracker rather than Insights Capture, see Valorant Tracker highlights not working.
Bottom line: check the build, VALORANT's recording mode and a restart first
Start with three checks. First, confirm that VALORANT is on Insights Capture's supported list. Insights' help center says to open the app's settings, click the + icon next to 'Game Settings' and search for the game on the 'My Games' page, and VALORANT is also on the game list in its 'Auto Record Matches' article. Second, open VALORANT's game settings and look at the 'Recording' tab. Automatic match recording only happens when 'Auto Record Matches' is selected. If the game is set to 'Manual Recording', it records only when you press the hotkey, and 'Clips Mode' saves short clips instead of full matches. Third, if it worked yesterday and stopped today, close both Insights Capture and VALORANT and start them again. Insights names two usual causes when a supported game will not record: a one-off error, which a restart of the app and game works around, or an issue on Insights' side in the overlay, recording or game event systems, which it asks you to report on its Discord server. 'Auto Record Matches' relies on the game's match start and end events, and Overwolf's developer documentation for VALORANT says the match end (match_end) event does not work in custom matches or training. So test in a normal queued match, not a custom game or the Range. If it is a patch day and nothing you change helps, you are waiting on a fix you cannot make yourself. Until then, record the games you must keep manually with the Start/Stop hotkey, or let a separate recorder handle them. DOR is one option: it detects VALORANT on its own and saves kills and deaths as clips, and the DOR Valorant page shows what it records automatically. Whatever you choose, let only one app record at a time.
How to fix Insights Capture not recording VALORANT, step by step
- 1Check which Insights Capture build you haveOverwolf's store page, checked October 16, 2026, lists two builds: Overwolf Client 2.5.12.35, updated September 8, 2026, and Electron 3.8.0, updated September 28, 2026. Insights' V3 page says the app no longer needs Overwolf to run. If you have to open the Overwolf client to use Insights Capture, you are on the Overwolf build and the Overwolf rows in the table below apply too. On V3, the Insights settings in these steps are what matter.
- 2Confirm VALORANT is in My GamesOpen Insights Capture's settings, click the + icon next to 'Game Settings' and search for VALORANT on the 'My Games' page. Insights' help center lists VALORANT among the games that support 'Auto Record Matches'. If it does not show up for you, do not start changing other settings; mention it when you ask for help on Insights' Discord.
- 3Set VALORANT to Auto Record MatchesIn VALORANT's game settings, open the 'Recording' tab and select 'Auto Record Matches'. Recording then starts when a match begins and stops when it ends, with no hotkey needed. Game-specific settings override the general settings while that game is in focus, so a change made only in the general settings may not reach VALORANT. Test it in a normal queued match: Overwolf's VALORANT event documentation says the match end event does not work in custom matches or training.
- 4Restart Insights Capture and VALORANTIf recording stopped suddenly, fully close Insights Capture and VALORANT, then start them again. Insights' FAQ article names a one-off error as one of the two usual causes when a supported game does not record, and says a restart of the app and game works around it. The other usual cause is an issue on Insights' side in the overlay, recording or game event systems, so if a restart does not help, report it on Insights' Discord server with a detailed description of what you see.
- 5Fix hotkeys and clips that do not saveInsights' default Start/Stop recording key is F7, and its VALORANT recording guide lists Instant Replay on F6. Insights warns that conflicting keybinds can stop recording from working properly, so check that no other app, overlay or recorder uses the same keys. If Insights Capture is not clipping, open the recording settings tab and turn on 'Clip with Hotkey' (the help article also spells it 'Clips with Hotkey'). For clips without full recordings, set VALORANT's mode to 'Clips Mode', or use 'Manual Record' with 'Clip with Hotkey' on.
- 6Get highlights without losing the full match'Highlights Only' builds a highlight montage from events collected during a recording, such as kills, deaths and bookmarks, and you can choose which events count and how much footage to keep around each one. By default, though, the original recording is deleted once the highlights are made. If you want the full VALORANT match for review, turn off 'Delete original recording', or use 'Auto Record Matches' instead.
- 7Fix frozen recordings and FPS dropsIf a recording shows one still frame while the audio and mouse movement keep playing, Insights' 'Frozen Recordings' article points to RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS), which often installs with MSI Afterburner. Close it while you record, or open 'Injection Properties' in RivaTuner and enable 'Use Microsoft Detours API Hooking'. If the game feels heavy, Insights' own VALORANT recording guide recommends GPU encoding (NVENC or AMD) and closing background apps. On the Overwolf build, Overwolf also suggests setting the preset to 'Default' or 'Automatic' and lowering resolution and FPS.
Insights Capture VALORANT problems: likely cause and where to check (checked October 16, 2026)
| Symptom | Likely cause | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing records in VALORANT | The game is set to 'Manual Recording', or the app hit a one-off error | VALORANT's 'Recording' tab, then restart the app and the game |
| The hotkey works, but matches are not auto recorded | The mode is not 'Auto Record Matches', you tested in a custom game, or match events are paused after a patch | The 'Recording' tab, a retest in a normal queued match, and on the Overwolf build, Overwolf's game event status for VALORANT |
| Not clipping | 'Clip with Hotkey' is off, or the key clashes with another app | The recording settings tab and your keybind settings |
| Only a short highlight, no full match | 'Highlights Only' deletes the original recording by default | Turn off 'Delete original recording' or switch to 'Auto Record Matches' |
| Frozen picture while sound keeps playing | RivaTuner (RTSS) conflicts with recording | Close RTSS or enable 'Use Microsoft Detours API Hooking' |
| Overwolf build: recording errors or a black screen | Another Overwolf app is recording, the save drive is full, or the graphics driver is outdated | Close the other recorder, free up space or pick another folder, update drivers, and on PCs with both integrated and dedicated graphics turn on 'Shared Texture Compatibility Mode' |
| Overwolf build: no sound or missing Discord voices | Audio software such as Nahimic, Windows Sonic, or how your headset routes audio | Close the audio software, turn off Windows Sonic, set Discord's output to the headset's game channel (SteelSeries Arctis, HyperX) |
Check these before you switch recorders
- You know whether you are on the Overwolf build or the stand-alone V3 app.
- VALORANT shows up under 'My Games' in Insights Capture's settings.
- VALORANT's recording mode is 'Auto Record Matches', or the mode you actually want.
- No other app uses F7, F6 or your clip key, and only one recorder is running.
- RivaTuner is closed, or switched to Microsoft Detours API hooking.
- You tested with one normal queued match, not a custom game or the Range.
Alternative: let DOR record VALORANT automatically
DOR is a free Windows recording app that installs on its own and does not use the Overwolf client. When you launch VALORANT, it detects the game, records the match and saves kills and deaths as automatic clips. In Competitive, Unrated and Swiftplay, clips are labeled Double, Triple or Quadra Kill based on your kill streak, and when you win a round with an ace or a clutch, the last kill clip of that round gets an Ace or Clutch tag. Clips from modes such as Deathmatch are labeled Single Kill. The full match video has round chapters and an event slider, so you can jump straight to the round you want to review. For anything the automatic clips miss, press F8 to save the last 30 seconds as a clip; the length can be set to 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds. While a match is being recorded, the clip key is not passed through to the game. Blackbox Record is on by default, so F8 also saves the last moment when nothing is being recorded, and F7 records your whole monitor until you press it again. DOR does not record the in-game replay screen automatically, so use F7 or F8 if you want that. Quality defaults to 1080p at 30 fps; 1440p and above or 120 fps and above are Pro features, and resolution, frame rate and clip length cannot be changed during a recording, so set them before you queue. The microphone and 'Record All Sounds' are on by default, which saves everything your PC plays, including game audio and Discord voices, in one track; turn 'Record All Sounds' off to keep only the game window's sound and your mic. Automatic File Management (on by default, 30 GB) deletes older videos to keep space free while keeping the videos you liked, and you can find the folder under File Save Path in settings. In My Clips you can trim a section and export it at 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. To put your friends' views of the same match into one video, use Party Clip, and if you record team practice, the VALORANT scrim finder guide covers agreeing on rules and replays with the other team. Know the limits as well: DOR does not fix Insights Capture, and it does not replace uploading to Insights.gg if your team reviews there. If you keep both apps installed, turn off recording in one of them so that only one app records each match.
