Team Fortress 2 gives each of its nine classes a different way to shine, so even on the same server everyone wants to show off something different. One friend wants to keep a Spy backstab streak, another the final point pushed under a Medic UberCharge, another the ridiculous way they got launched across the map. This guide covers one method only: record Team Fortress 2 with DOR, cut out those moments, and send them to friends as a dor.gg link. Once you join a server you tend to stay through map changes, so recordings get long and knowing how to find a few-second highlight matters.
The method at a glance
Launch Team Fortress 2 on a PC with DOR installed and everything from joining a server to quitting is saved as one mp4. After you quit, open it in the library, find the round with the backstab or Uber push, trim just those few seconds to a minute, and send the dor.gg link. For nailing the start and end of a short scene, see How to Trim Game Clips.
Steps to send a TF2 moment to friends
- 1Join Team Fortress 2 with DOR runningInstall the free DOR app on your Windows PC and launch Team Fortress 2; DOR detects it automatically and records. However many times the server changes maps, it stays one video until you close the game.
- 2Remember the map and round of the highlightRespawn waits, map changes and setup time all go into the recording, so noting which map and which round it was makes searching much easier. The loading screen at every map change is a handy divider when you scrub through the file.
- 3Work backward from the round result screenIn Payload or Control Point games that end at the last point, the big plays often cluster right before the round result screen. Find the result screen first, then step backward a little at a time to locate the Uber push or last-second hold quickly.
- 4Keep stabs short, keep pushes wholeBackstabs and funny deaths need only 5 to 15 seconds; longer and the joke fades. For an Uber push or point hold, keep 30 seconds to a minute so it is clear what you pushed. Use 16:9 when the whole-screen situation matters, and 9:16 or 1:1 for short deaths sent to a phone.
- 5Send the link to the friends on that serverWhen the trim finishes you get a dor.gg link. Paste it into the chat with the friends who played with you, and each of them plays it in a browser with no video files changing hands.
- 6Join a backstab reel in StudioTo bundle backstabs or deaths from several rounds into one video, merge them in DOR Studio in the browser, add effect templates and text, and balance the background music volume.
TF2 highlights to cut, by class
| Class | Scene to keep | How much to cut |
|---|---|---|
| Spy | Slipping behind enemy lines in disguise and chaining backstabs | From when you start moving in disguise to the last stab |
| Medic | Popping UberCharge and pushing a point with a teammate | From just before the Uber to when invulnerability ends |
| Soldier | Rocket jumping onto high ground for an ambush | From the setup before the jump to the first kill after landing |
| Engineer | Holding your sentry, or busting an enemy sentry nest | From when the fight around the sentry starts until it is settled |
| Demoman and Heavy | Locking down a choke and shutting down push after push | From when enemies start pouring in until the choke is clear |
| Any class | Getting launched or killed in a ridiculous way | Just the few seconds before the death |
Checklist before sending
- At least 20GB of free disk space (below that, recording stops automatically)
- You found the right map and round in the recording
- Backstab and death clips do not drag past 15 seconds
- The Uber push clip shows what you were pushing
- You are fine sharing other players' chat or names visible on screen
- Voice chat or your mic does not include anything you would rather not keep
What DOR does in Team Fortress 2
DOR is a free Windows desktop app, and Team Fortress 2 joined its full-session recording games in the October 2026 app update. Launch the game and DOR detects it automatically, saving everything until you quit as one mp4 without splitting it by round or map. There are no automatic highlights that detect kills or backstabs, so you pull scenes out yourself with the library trim tool. You can switch this game's recording on or off in the Full Session Recording group in settings, and turning it off shows a confirmation prompt. Recording stops automatically below 20GB of free space. Game audio and your mic are recorded together, so your laughter with friends stays in too. See How to Merge Game Clips for combining scenes and DOR Browser Clip Editor for the Studio editing screen.
