The shortest way to record Roblox with your voice on PC is a recorder that takes both a desktop (game) audio source and a microphone source. Roblox's own in-experience capture will not do it: its help page says audio from voice chat or other in-experience sounds is not recorded, and clips are capped at 30 seconds. This guide is current as of October 2, 2026 and covers only the voice part. For the basic screen-recording steps, start with how to record Roblox gameplay on PC.
The short answer first
As of October 2, 2026, there are three takeaways. First, Roblox's Captures feature does not record voice chat or in-experience sound, so skip it for voiceover videos. Second, pick a tool that can take computer sound and a mic together: Xbox Game Bar, the NVIDIA app, OBS or DOR. Third, for some of these tools no official page says how they behave with Roblox specifically, so always record a short test before the real session. The general principles of adding a mic to any game recording are in how to record games with mic audio; this guide only covers what changes on Roblox.
Steps to record with your voice included
- 1Check Windows microphone permission first — Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone and Let desktop apps access your microphone are all on. Desktop apps do not appear in the per-app list, so if the last switch is off, your recorder may get no mic signal at all.
- 2Set the default input and test the mic — Under Settings > System > Sound, choose your microphone or headset in Input, then use Start test under Microphone test, speak, press Stop test and play the sample back. Also check that the headset's Mute button is not active, the device is connected, and the Input volume slider is not too low.
- 3Decide whether you need Roblox voice chat — If you only want your own commentary in the video, the recorder's mic is enough and Roblox voice chat is not required. To talk to other players inside a game, Roblox's help pages say you must be 13 or older and complete an age check (ID Verification or Facial Age Estimation). Voice Chat is off by default, is turned on in settings or with the headphone icon, depends on whether the experience supports it (see its Description page), and availability varies by region. Phone verification is not accepted.
- 4Pick one recorder and set its sound sources — Choose a single tool from the table below. In OBS, open Settings > Audio and choose the Desktop Audio and Mic/Auxiliary Audio devices manually, then capture Roblox with Window Capture or Display Capture instead of Game Capture. In Game Bar, press Windows key+G, set Capturing audio to All, and toggle the mic during recording with Windows key+Alt+M. In the NVIDIA app, press Alt+Z and switch Microphone on. Running only one recording or overlay tool at a time is the safer habit.
- 5Record a short test — Join a place that plays sound effects or music, talk while you play, and record a short clip. In OBS you can test with the Start Recording button, and the official quick start guide strongly encourages a few minutes of testing before the real session. Hotkeys differ by tool, so recheck the keys in the table below.
- 6Play it back and listen for both sounds — Open the saved file and confirm you can hear both the game and your voice. In the NVIDIA app, a video saved with separate audio tracks shows a grey icon in the Gallery and cannot be edited there; an NVIDIA support answer (updated August 2025) says to fix it with Alt+Z > settings icon > Audio > Create a single track.
How each tool handles sound, per official documents
| Tool | Sound and mic handling (from official documents) | What to know for Roblox |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox built-in Captures | The help page says audio from voice chat or other in-experience sounds is not recorded in video captures. | Up to 30 seconds. On desktop, the save icon in the Captures menu copies a video to the Videos folder. |
| Xbox Game Bar | In Settings > Capturing, the audio option All includes computer sounds, and Windows key+Alt+M toggles the microphone while recording. | Windows key+Alt+R starts and stops recording; MP4 files go to Videos > Captures. No official statement on Roblox compatibility, so test first. |
| NVIDIA app | The Alt+Z overlay has a Microphone control that toggles your voice or sets a push-to-talk key, and settings offer multi-track audio so the mic can be a separate recording. | Needs an NVIDIA GPU; Alt+F9 starts and stops recording. The source article is from November 2024, so menus may have changed. |
| OBS Studio | By default it captures desktop audio and the microphone; check the volume meters in the Audio Mixer. | Roblox says OBS in-game capture has known issues and to use window or desktop capture instead. |
| DOR | Records game sound and microphone at the same time. | For Roblox it only offers full-match automatic recording and makes no automatic clips. |
Checklist when the sound is wrong
- If only your voice is missing, check the three Windows microphone switches, the default input device and the headset mute button, in that order.
- If game sound is missing, check the recorder's computer (desktop) audio source. In OBS, see whether the Audio Mixer meters move, and if the wrong device is picked, choose it manually under Settings > Audio.
- No voice in a Roblox built-in video is expected per the help page. Also, Roblox Moments does not accept external files, only captures from the Roblox captures gallery, so a video from an outside recorder cannot be posted there.
- In-experience, a red slash on the microphone icon means you are muted, and a red dot means Roblox is recording audio. You can disconnect from voice chat by toggling Voice Chat from Connected to Disconnected in in-game settings.
- If OBS Game Capture misbehaves, switch to Window Capture or Display Capture as Roblox advises. For Display Capture: Sources +, Display Capture, choose the display, OK, then start recording.
- If you see messages such as 'Roblox was stopped' about third-party software, Roblox's page suggests closing other software or doing a Windows clean boot; do not run several recording or overlay tools at once.
Recording Roblox with voice in DOR
If juggling tool settings sounds tedious, the free Windows app DOR can automatically record your Roblox sessions as full matches saved as mp4 and capture game sound and microphone at the same time. For Roblox it only supports full-match automatic recording and does not generate automatic clips, so cut the moments you need with the library's trim function (pick a start and end) or shorten and combine videos in DOR Studio, the browser editor. If your voice sounds faint or silent in a recording, work through fixing a mic that is not recording step by step.
