There are two ways to record Roblox on mobile. The first is Roblox's own Captures tool: inside an experience, open the Roblox menu in the upper-left corner and select Captures, and a capture icon appears on the right side of the screen. Tap it to record a video of up to 30 seconds. The second is your device's built-in screen recorder: Screen Recording in Control Center on iPhone and iPad, or the Screen record tile in Quick Settings on Android (the name varies by phone). A screen recording can run much longer than 30 seconds, and if you turn on the microphone it records your voice too, which makes it the usual choice for commentary videos. According to Roblox's official help, which we checked on October 14, 2026, video capture is supported on both desktop and mobile devices, but it does not record voice chat or any other in-experience sound. So a short moment that doesn't need sound fits the built-in tool, while anything longer, or anything that needs game audio or your voice, fits screen recording. If you can't find Captures in the menu or the icon never shows up, start with Roblox capture button missing or not saving. Below we walk through both methods step by step, how to prepare audio, storage and heat before a long recording, where each kind of file ends up, and how to keep full-length recordings if you also play on a PC.
Bottom line: Captures for short silent moments, screen recording for anything longer or with sound
If you just want to grab a quick moment, the built-in tool is enough. It removes the on-screen UI and the names above avatars automatically, so the footage looks clean, and if you are 13 or older you can trim a capture, add music and post it to Moments, Roblox's beta video feed. Moments only accepts videos from your Captures gallery, not externally edited files, and allows up to 10 uploads a day; see how to post Roblox Moments for the details. If you need more than 30 seconds, game audio, your own voice, or footage for YouTube or TikTok, use your device's screen recorder instead. Keep in mind that a screen recording captures the screen exactly as it looks, so chat, the UI and other players' names end up in the video, and you should check them before posting. Screen recording is also worth trying in experiences where the developer has turned off player capture and the built-in tool is unavailable. And if you want to keep entire sessions, with game audio and your voice in one file, playing on a PC with the same account is another route; how to record Roblox for longer than 30 seconds compares the PC tools.
How to record Roblox on your phone, step by step
- 1Pick the method that fits the momentDecide what you want to keep before you start. A rare drop or a funny fail that fits in 30 seconds and doesn't need sound is quickest with the built-in Captures tool. A full boss fight, an obby run from start to finish, or a session where you talk with friends is long or depends on audio, so use your device's screen recorder. If you don't want the capture icon to show up in a screen recording, open the Roblox menu and select Captures again before you start to hide the icon. Roblox lets you toggle the icon on and off at any time.
- 2Record a 30-second capture and save it to your camera rollJoin an experience, open the Roblox menu in the upper-left corner and select Captures. When the capture icon appears on the right side of the screen, tap it to start recording; a small indicator shows that recording is in progress. Tap the icon again to stop. A capture can run up to 30 seconds. The video is stored in Roblox app storage first, so go back to the menu, select Captures, tap the video to preview it, then tap the save icon to copy it to your device's camera roll. Captures you never saved are deleted along with the app if you uninstall Roblox, so save the ones you want to keep right away.
- 3iPhone and iPad: start Screen Recording from Control CenterSwipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center (on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge instead). To record your voice as well, touch and hold the gray Record button, then tap the Microphone button to turn it on. Tap the Record button, wait for the three-second countdown, close Control Center and go back to Roblox. To stop, tap the screen recording button at the top of the screen and tap Stop, or open Control Center and tap the red Record button. The video is saved to your Library in the Photos app. If there is no Record button in Control Center, add it first; how you add it looks slightly different depending on your iOS or iPadOS version. Apple notes that some apps might not allow you to record audio or video, so do a short test recording first.
- 4Android: use Screen record in Quick SettingsSwipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings and tap Screen record. If you don't see it, swipe sideways or tap Edit to add the tile. On a Pixel you can turn on Record device audio (game sound) and Record microphone (your voice) before you start, and choose A single app instead of the entire screen so only Roblox is captured. Recordings are in Google Photos under Collections, On this device, Movies. On a Samsung Galaxy, tap Screen recorder in Quick settings and choose a sound option (None, Media, or Media and mic); video quality can be set to 1080p, 720p or 480p, and the file is saved to the Gallery app. Menu names and options vary by manufacturer, Android version and One UI version.
- 5Prepare sound, storage and heat before you hit recordLonger recordings mean bigger files and a warmer device. Free up storage before you start, and turn on Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode so notification banners don't end up in the video. If the frame rate drops, open the Roblox menu, go to Settings, switch Graphics Mode to Manual and move the Graphics Quality slider to the left to favor performance. Check your volume and silent mode, then make a 10-second test recording and listen for both game audio and your voice. Roblox has no official guidance on whether other players' voice chat is picked up by phone screen recorders. Samsung notes that its screen recorder does not capture phone, VoIP or video calls, so voice chat may be missing; check for it in your test as well.
- 6Trim, reframe and postCut the waiting time at the start and end so only the moment you want remains. A screen recording keeps the orientation you played in, so a landscape session gives you a landscape video; reframe it to 9:16 in an editing app if you are posting to Shorts, Reels or TikTok. Screen recordings show the chat window, other players' names and your own display name, so check for personal information before you post. Built-in captures already have the UI and names removed, so they need less checking. Moments only accepts videos from your Captures gallery, so use screen recordings for YouTube, TikTok and other platforms outside Roblox.
Ways to record Roblox on phones and tablets (checked October 14, 2026)
| Method | Length and audio | Where it's saved and what to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox built-in Captures (Roblox menu > Captures) | Up to 30 seconds. Voice chat and in-experience sound are not recorded, and the UI and names above avatars are removed. | Stored in Roblox app storage; tap the save icon to copy a video to your camera roll. Unsaved captures are deleted if you uninstall the app, and the tool is unavailable in experiences where the developer turned capture off. |
| iPhone and iPad Screen Recording (Control Center) | Can run long; the practical limit is your free storage and battery. Touch and hold the Record button and turn on Microphone to include your voice. | Saved to the Library in the Photos app. Apple notes that some apps might not allow audio or video recording, so confirm with a test. |
| Android Screen record (Quick Settings on Pixel and others) | Device audio (game sound) and microphone can be turned on separately, and there is an option to record a single app. | On Pixel: Google Photos, Collections, On this device, Movies. Menu names and options differ by manufacturer and Android version. |
| Samsung Galaxy Screen recorder (Quick settings) | Choose None, Media, or Media and mic for sound, and 1080p, 720p or 480p for quality. | Saved to the Gallery app; some recordings are in My Files under DCIM. Samsung notes that some apps may block screen recording due to copyright restrictions. |
| Roblox Moments (beta) | Trim a 30-second video from your Captures gallery, add music and a description, and post it. | Ages 13 and up, up to 10 uploads a day. Externally edited files and screen recordings can't be uploaded, and every post is moderated. |
| PC + DOR (Windows) | Recording starts automatically when you join an experience and keeps going until you leave, with no length limit; game audio and your mic are recorded together. | Trim it in the DOR library, export it as 9:16 and share a dor.gg link that plays in a phone browser. DOR does not record Roblox on phones or tablets. |
Check before you record
- Roblox is up to date, and the capture icon is on (Roblox menu > Captures) if you are using Captures, or hidden if you are screen recording.
- For anything over 30 seconds or anything that needs sound, you are using your device's screen recorder instead of Captures.
- On iPhone or iPad you held the Record button and turned on Microphone; on Android you checked the device audio and microphone options.
- You freed up storage and turned on Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode so notifications don't appear in the video.
- You listened to a 10-second test recording and heard both game audio and your voice.
- Before posting, you checked for chat, other players' names and personal information, and you saved the captures you want to keep to your camera roll.
If you also play on PC: record whole experiences automatically with DOR
DOR is a free Windows PC app, so it does not record Roblox played on phones or tablets. If you also play Roblox on a PC with the same account, DOR detects Roblox automatically, based on the PC version downloaded from roblox.com. Recording starts on its own when you join an experience and stops when you leave the experience for the home screen or close Roblox, and each experience is saved as one mp4 file in your library. It records any experience, whatever the genre, with no length limit. Note that the Roblox home screen is not recorded, and on your first join after launching Roblox the recording can start about 15 to 20 seconds late. Your mic is recorded by default with noise suppression, along with game audio. When you only want the moment that just happened, press F8 (you can change the key) to save the last 30 seconds (choose 15, 30, 45 or 60) as a separate clip; how to clip Roblox covers this in detail. In the library you can trim a recording and export it as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, then share a dor.gg link that plays right in a phone browser. To merge clips or add text, background music or effect templates, use DOR Studio in your browser. For the vertical-video workflow, see how to make Roblox Shorts. The default quality is 1080p at 60fps. DOR does not create automatic kill or highlight clips for Roblox, so you pick moments yourself with F8 or by trimming in the library.
