The capture icon on the right side of your Roblox screen goes away when you open the in-experience menu in the top-left corner and select Capture. To bring it back, select Capture again in the same menu. That icon is Roblox's built-in capture tool: tap it to take a screenshot or to record a video clip of up to 30 seconds. It is handy, but on a phone or tablet it is easy to tap by accident, and some players simply want a cleaner screen. Parents also look for a way to switch it off on a child's device. This guide follows what Roblox's official Help Center articles on screenshots, video captures and experience controls said when we checked them on October 14, 2026. It covers hiding the icon, stopping a capture that is still recording, deleting captures you already took, why some experiences have no Capture option at all, and what to know about kids' devices. If you want the opposite, taking captures and finding where they are saved, read How to Take Roblox Screenshots and Find the Folder first.
Bottom line: hide the icon with Capture in the menu, and delete old captures from the gallery
If all you want is the icon off your screen, select Capture in the top-left in-experience menu. Roblox's Experience Controls article describes this item as a toggle that turns screen capture on or off. The official articles describe screenshots and video captures through the same capture icon and do not mention a separate switch for screenshots only or video only, so hiding the icon removes both ways of capturing from your screen. Hiding the icon does not delete anything you already captured. Inside an experience, open the Roblox menu, choose Captures at the top, open the item and tap the trash can icon. Copies you saved to your device have to be deleted there: the camera roll on a phone, or the Videos folder (video captures) and the Pictures folder (screenshots) on a computer. If Capture does not appear in the menu at all, the developer of that experience may have turned capture off. Roblox says developers can turn off player capture in their experience, and the menu only shows features enabled for the experience you are in. If your problem is the reverse and the button is missing or captures will not save, see Roblox Capture Button Missing or Not Saving. If you would rather use your phone's own screen recorder than the built-in capture, see How to Record Roblox on Your Phone.
How to turn off the Roblox capture button
- 1Stop a recording first if one is runningA video capture starts when you tap the capture icon, and a small indicator shows while it is recording. If you see that indicator, tap the capture icon once more to stop. Video captures run up to 30 seconds and do not include voice chat or in-experience sound. The clip you stop is saved to your Captures gallery, so if you don't want it, delete it in the fourth step below.
- 2Open the top-left menu inside an experienceRoblox's help articles describe changing capture settings while you are inside an experience, not from the app's home screen. Join any experience and open the menu in the top-left corner (the hamburger menu with three lines). Click it with a mouse on PC, or tap it on a phone or tablet. According to Roblox's Experience Controls article, this menu shows only the features enabled for that experience, such as Report Abuse, Self View, Capture, Leaderboard, Emotes, Inventory and Respawn. Chat and voice chat are listed separately as communication controls, not in this menu.
- 3Select Capture to hide the iconSelect Capture in the menu. If the icon is showing, selecting it removes the capture icon from the right side of the screen; if the icon is hidden, selecting it again brings it back. Roblox says you can toggle this at any time. Close the menu and check that nothing is left on the right edge of the screen.
- 4Review and delete captures you already tookHiding the icon leaves your existing screenshots and videos in Roblox app storage. Roblox says the gallery is opened from inside an experience, so while you are in one, open the Roblox menu in the top-left corner and choose Captures from the top menu. Tap an item to open it in the carousel, then tap the trash can icon to delete it. Repeat for each capture you want gone.
- 5Delete copies saved on the deviceFiles you exported with the save icon stay on your device even after you delete them from the Roblox gallery. According to Roblox, a phone saves them to the camera roll, while a computer saves video captures to the Videos folder and screenshots to the Pictures folder, so delete them there. Roblox also notes that uninstalling the app deletes captures you never saved to the device, but you do not need to uninstall Roblox just to clear out captures.
- 6Check again in other experiencesThe help articles do not say whether a hidden icon stays hidden in every experience. If the icon shows up again after you join a different experience, select Capture in the same menu to hide it. Some experiences have no Capture option at all; one reason Roblox documents is that the developer turned capture off, and in that case you cannot capture in that experience anyway.
What you want to turn off, and where to do it
| What you want to turn off | Where and how | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| The capture icon on the right side | In-experience menu (top left, three lines) → select Capture | Each selection switches between showing and hiding the icon. Select it again to bring the icon back. |
| Only screenshots, or only video | No separate setting in the official articles | Roblox describes both through the same capture icon, so hiding the icon removes both from your screen. |
| A video capture that is recording | Tap the capture icon again | A small indicator shows while recording, and clips run up to 30 seconds. The stopped clip stays in your Captures gallery. |
| Screenshots and videos you already took | Roblox menu → Captures at the top → open the item → trash can icon | Copies exported to your device (camera roll, or the Videos and Pictures folders on PC) must be deleted on the device. |
| No Capture option in one experience | The experience's developer may have turned capture off | The menu only lists features enabled for that experience, so there is nothing to toggle there. |
| The old PC Record tab and PrintScreen key | Only in an older help article not edited since November 2023 | Official articles do not confirm whether that tab still exists on PC today, or how to disable a keyboard shortcut. |
| Captures on a child's device | Roblox's Parental Controls guides list no capture setting | The icon can be turned back on from the in-experience menu at any time. Screenshot sharing is limited to users 13 and older on mobile. |
Checks before and after you turn it off
- If a recording indicator was showing, you tapped the icon again to stop it.
- You selected Capture in the top-left in-experience menu and the icon on the right is gone.
- Captures you don't want are deleted from the Captures gallery with the trash can icon.
- Any copies you exported are also deleted from the camera roll or from the Videos and Pictures folders on your PC.
- You checked whether the icon comes back when you join a different experience.
- On a child's device, you plan to look through the Captures gallery and device storage now and then, since Roblox's Parental Controls have no capture setting.
Keep whole sessions on PC without a button on screen
If you want to keep your gameplay while the capture icon stays hidden, DOR is an option on PC. DOR is a free Windows PC app that automatically detects the PC version of Roblox installed from roblox.com (support for the Microsoft Store version has not been confirmed). When you join an experience, recording starts in the background, and it stops when you leave the experience for the home screen or close Roblox. The Roblox app home and menus are not recorded, and if you jump into an experience right after launching Roblox, recording can start about 15 to 20 seconds late. While it records, DOR shows no button or notification on top of the Roblox game screen; when you leave the experience, the DOR window comes to the front with a list of what it just recorded. Unlike the built-in capture, each experience is saved as one mp4 with no length limit, and game sound is recorded together with your microphone (the mic is on by default, with noise suppression). The default quality is 1080p at 60 fps. To keep just the moment that happened, press F8 (you can change the key) inside an experience and the last 30 seconds (choose 15, 30, 45 or 60) are saved as a separate clip. No notification appears in game when you do this, so check your saved clips in the library afterwards. From the library you can trim a section and export it in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, or share it as a dor.gg link. The details are in How to Record Roblox Longer Than 30 Seconds and How to Clip Roblox. To stop DOR from recording Roblox automatically, turn off the Full Game Recording toggle for Roblox in DOR's settings. DOR is PC only and does not record Roblox on phones, tablets or consoles, so on mobile use the steps in this guide to turn capture off, and use DOR when you play on PC.
