The Binding of Isaac records automatically: install DOR, launch the game, and AI takes care of the recording. Every run of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth deals different items, so the run where Brimstone shows up in a floor 1 item room might never come again. DOR detects the game as it opens, starts recording before you step into the first Basement room, and keeps going through as many runs as you play until you quit. You can go back and see which devil deal turned a run around. This guide walks through setup, saving moments, finding a run in a long recording, editing montages and guide clips, sharing, and fixing recording problems.
- Keep a full Isaac run on video, from Basement 1 to beating The Lamb.
- Clip a tear synergy that deletes a room, or a half heart Satan kill, right after it happens.
- Find the moment you asked 'Two red hearts for this, worth it?' with AI Voice Notes.
- Check boss, synergy and ending clips and let AI Highlight compress a run into one short video.
Before you record The Binding of Isaac: install and recording mode
The only setup is installing DOR, a free Windows app that adds no watermark. This guide covers The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for PC through Steam. DOR detects the game itself, so a session with Repentance or mods loaded is recorded the same way. Recording works per session. Isaac drops you into the next run the moment one ends, so an evening of play becomes one recording with several runs inside it. The game is light, so the default 1080p at 30fps records smoothly even on minimum spec hardware, and a very old laptop can use the 720p/30fps mode. More ways to keep recording light are in record games on a low end PC.
| Item | For The Binding of Isaac | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install DOR | Free Windows app | No watermark on videos |
| Game version | Rebirth for PC, launched from Steam | Repentance and modded sessions record the same way |
| Recording mode | Session recording: one video from launch to exit | Back to back runs stay in the same recording |
| Display mode | Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record | Switches to monitor capture if game capture is blocked |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30fps by default, 60fps available | Works regardless of the game's own frame settings |
Record The Binding of Isaac with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DOR and leave it runningInstall DOR and open it once; after that it waits in the background for Isaac to start. If you like to narrate your runs, check that DOR picked up the right microphone.
- 2Launch Isaac from SteamStart the game and DOR notices it and begins recording. Capture starts at the title screen, so picking a character and walking into the first room are included.
- 3Remember the floor where the run turnedRooms change fast in Isaac, which makes scenes hard to spot by eye in a long recording. When a run starts feeling strong, note which run and which floor it is, and again when you enter the boss room.
- 4Clip right after a synergy or bossAfter a no hit Mom fight or a room wiped by a finished synergy, press the clip save shortcut. The last 30 seconds become a clip and the session recording keeps going.
- 5Quit and check My ClipsWhen you close Isaac, the recording and your saved clips appear in My Clips. Open it to confirm the run that reached the ending was captured.
Find your recordings
Recordings live in My Clips, the library in the DOR app. Each launch and quit makes one recording, and clips you saved in between are listed separately. In a recording with several runs, use item pickups and boss room entrances as landmarks. A combo clip only makes sense if it includes both halves: start just before you pick up the key item and end after the build clears the room. Export those in 16:9 so the whole room is visible, and cut short reactions separately in 9:16 or 1:1. Like any record you want to keep, such as an Eden streak attempt. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so liked runs stay. Trimming tips are in how to trim game clips.
Save the moments you want to keep
The clip save shortcut saves the play just before you press it. The default is 30 seconds, with 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds available in settings. A tense half heart room or a boss's final hit fits in 15 or 30 seconds. Picking up an item in the treasure room and then tearing through the next few rooms needs 45 or 60 seconds to include the pickup. A good time to press is right as the room's doors open, because that signals the fight is over and the ending will be in the clip. If you miss it, the session recording still has it, ready to trim from the library. How it works is explained in save the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
AI Voice Notes turns what you say while playing into text and pins it to the recording timeline. In Isaac a single devil deal can decide a run, so having your reasoning on record is useful. Lines like 'Brimstone on Basement 1, this run is cracked', 'Half a heart left, play this room slow' or 'We're going to Delirium, damage is there' are saved as sentences, and selecting one jumps to that scene. Rewatch whether the deal saved the run or ended it. To balance your mic against game sound, see record game audio with your mic.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
AI Highlight joins the clips you check into one montage. If a run gave you 'Brimstone from a floor 1 item room', 'Taking the devil deal', 'Half heart Satan kill' and 'Beating The Lamb', check those four and press AI Highlight. Room transitions and exploring drop out, and the build comes together in order. On an Eden streak, pick one clip from each run to make a streak video. To set the order yourself, use merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Merge and trim clips, add text, background music and effect templates, and export in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 as an mp4 or a share link. For Isaac, cut the room transitions, punch zoom the moment a synergy pops, and type the names of the items you picked up to turn a raw run into a guide clip. A glitch transition suits the jump into a boss room, and labeling the floor and character helps viewers follow along. See everything in the DOR browser clip editor.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send the finished clip as one dor.gg link, and whoever opens it watches in a browser on PC or phone with no app. Instead of telling your Discord friends the tears covered the whole screen, just send the link. Broken build clips post to YouTube or TikTok without a watermark. Picking out only the combo, boss and ending is covered in how to share Binding of Isaac run videos.
The Binding of Isaac recommended settings and troubleshooting
Isaac records in any display mode, so play the way you always do. Changing the game's frame settings does not matter either: DOR records the game screen as it is, and you set the recording frame rate to 30fps or 60fps in DOR settings. If you plan shorts of screen filling synergies, 60fps looks smoother. If recording only misbehaves in fullscreen, start with fullscreen recording not working.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is a black screen | Your Isaac display mode and other overlay software | Close other recorders and relaunch the game. DOR switches to monitor capture if game capture is blocked |
| Recording seems off after installing mods | Whether DOR was running before the game | Open DOR first, then start Isaac; modded sessions record the same way |
| Your voice is missing | The microphone selected in DOR | Switch to the mic you use and record a short test |
| Stutter on an old laptop | Recording resolution and frame rate | Switch to 720p/30fps mode |
