Deadlock records automatically once DOR is installed: launch the game and the AI handles the rest. Start Deadlock from Steam and DOR detects it, recording the lobby and hero select, the lane phase, Mid Boss fights and the final push that cracks a Patron, all in one video until you close the game. You will not be stuck staring at a replay that is not ready yet, and because the recording is a regular video it still plays after the next patch. This guide walks you through the full routine for Deadlock: installing DOR, confirming the recording, saving teamfights, finding them later, building a montage and sending it to your party.
- Keep each Deadlock match in one video, from the first minion wave until a Patron goes down.
- Save the zipline drop gank or the Rejuvenator you stole off Mid Boss as separate clips.
- Use AI Voice Notes to find rotation calls like 'Mid Boss now, everyone group' and jump straight to that moment.
- Cut a 40 minute match down to about two minutes: the lane solo kill, the Guardian dive and the base fight comeback.
- Send the Patron kill to your party Discord or a group chat with a single dor.gg link.
Before you record Deadlock: install and recording mode
You can start recording Deadlock without any setup. DOR is a free Windows app and never adds a watermark. Deadlock uses full session recording, which means the video keeps running when a match ends and you return to the lobby, right up until you close the game. If you want to understand how the in game replay menu and .dem files differ from a DOR recording, read how to watch Deadlock replays. The table below lists what is worth knowing before your first Deadlock recording.
| Item | For Deadlock | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install | DOR, free Windows app | No watermark on your videos |
| Game version | Deadlock on PC, launched from Steam | DOR detects the game automatically when it starts |
| Recording mode | Full session recording | Lobby, hero select and every match stay in one video until you quit |
| Display mode | Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record | Leave the game's display settings as they are |
| In game FPS and capture FPS | Capture is 30fps by default, 60fps available | Your 144Hz or 240Hz in game frame rate stays as it is |
| Storage | About 30MB for a 30 second 1080p clip | Leave extra free space on nights you queue match after match |
Record Deadlock with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DORDownload DOR and install it. Setup takes about a minute and the app is free. Leave DOR running afterwards. You do not need to press a record button before your party queues.
- 2Launch Deadlock from SteamStart Deadlock from Steam. Recording begins as soon as DOR detects the game, so the lobby and hero select screens at the start of the video are expected.
- 3Confirm the recording is runningWhen you reach your lane in the first match, glance at the DOR app once to check that recording is in progress. If the game is not picked up, follow what to do when the recorder does not detect your game. After that, focus on souls and rotations.
- 4Clip the fight right after it endsRight after you take the zipline behind the enemy and land the gank, or right after you steal Mid Boss and walk away with the Rejuvenator, press the clip save shortcut. The last 30 seconds are stored as a separate clip, so you will not have to scrub the whole match later.
- 5Quit and open My ClipsWhen your last match ends, close the game. The full session video and every clip you saved appear together in My Clips in the DOR app, ready to watch without waiting for a replay to process.
Find your recordings
Your recordings live in My Clips in the DOR app, also called the library. Each time you open and close Deadlock becomes one session, and anything you saved with the clip save shortcut appears as its own clip. Inside a session, each match sits between a hero select screen and an end of game screen, so counting those two screens gets you to the right match quickly. Within a match, use big swings in map control, such as a Mid Boss fight or the moment you took a Guardian, as landmarks; they also help you see exactly why your souls fell behind. Set a start and an end point to trim the part you want, then export as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. The full walkthrough is in how to trim game clips. Like the matches you want to keep, such as a first win or a comeback. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so liked matches stay.
Save the moments you want to keep
Even though the whole match is recorded, saving the fights you care about on the spot makes them far easier to find. Press the clip save shortcut and the last stretch of play becomes a clip. The default length is 30 seconds, and you can pick 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds in settings. In Deadlock, good moments to press it are right after a lane solo kill, right after a zipline gank works, and right after you steal Mid Boss. A base fight in front of the Patron can easily run past a minute, so set the clip length to 60 seconds beforehand to capture the whole comeback. To change the shortcut, see saving the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
Playing Deadlock in a party means a constant flow of calls like 'taking the zipline, I'll flank from behind', 'I'm way behind on souls, farming jungle' and 'Walker's at half, one more push'. DOR records game audio and your microphone together, and AI Voice Notes writes what your party said onto the recording timeline as text. To check the minute someone called Mid Boss or who wandered into the jungle, find that line in the timeline text and select it to jump to the scene. Whether in game replays keep party voice has not been confirmed, but a DOR recording includes your mic and everything you hear alongside the footage. If your party calls over Discord, also read recording Discord call audio.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
A 40 minute match shown in full has long stretches of farming. In the library, check your clips of the lane solo kill, the zipline gank, the Mid Boss steal, the Guardian dive, the base fight comeback and the Patron kill, then select AI Highlight. DOR joins them into a montage that plays the turning points in order, condensing the match into about two minutes your party will actually watch to the end. To arrange scenes from several matches yourself, see how to merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Put a shake zoom on the frame your ultimate lands and add your hero's name as text, and a teamfight clip starts looking like a montage. Try a punch zoom the instant you drop off a zipline, and a glitch transition where one match cuts to the next. Add a background track and export in 16:9 for a hero highlight compilation, or 9:16 for Shorts. Framing tips for vertical video are in recording games for vertical Shorts. Download the result as an mp4 or share it as a link right away.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send trimmed fights as dor.gg links. Whoever opens the link plays it right in the browser without installing anything, so friends who have never played Deadlock can watch your Patron kill on a phone. For your party, start the cut a few seconds before the fight so the setup is clear; for friends who do not know the game, pick something instantly readable like a zipline ambush. Clues for finding each phase of a match and tips for sending are collected in sharing Deadlock teamfight videos.
Deadlock recommended settings and troubleshooting
If you play Deadlock at 144Hz or 240Hz, a GPU at or above the recommended spec keeps your high refresh rate while recording. Capture runs at 30fps by default with 60fps available, and your in game frame rate stays the same either way. Pick 60fps if you want ability effects and fast movement to look smooth, or the 720p/30fps mode if your PC is working hard. Fullscreen, windowed and borderless windows all record, so you can leave the game's settings alone. DOR uses GPU hardware encoding, so the frame rate impact is small. If you still see drops while recording, work through fixing FPS drops while recording. DOR has no cheat features and never touches game files or play data.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is a black screen | The display mode in the game settings | DOR records fullscreen, windowed and borderless alike. If it is still black, follow [fixing fullscreen recording](fullscreen-recording-not-working) to switch to monitor capture. |
| Party calls are missing from the video | Your Windows input device and DOR mic settings | Make sure the right microphone is selected, then follow [fixing a mic that is not recording](mic-not-recording-fix). |
| In game frame rate wobbles in teamfights | Recording resolution and frame rate | GPU hardware encoding keeps the impact small, but if your PC still struggles, drop to 720p/30fps mode. |
| The replay is not ready after a match | Whether you have a DOR recording | DOR has already saved the match as a video, so open it in My Clips right away. |
| Worried a recorder could affect your account | How DOR works | DOR only captures the screen, has no cheat features and does not modify game files or play data. |
