Warcraft 3 records automatically once DOR is installed: launch the game and the AI handles capture. Waiting in the Battle.net lobby for a ladder match, creeping, hero fights, the score screen and whole nights spent hopping between custom games, everything from launch until you close the game flows into one video. Even if you forget to save a replay and the next game overwrites it, the video is still there, and you can show a game with one link instead of passing w3g files around. This guide shows you how to record Warcraft III: Reforged with DOR, a free Windows app, then find just the hero fight or the comeback inside a recording with several games back to back, trim it and send it.
- Keep your whole Warcraft 3 session in one video, from the Battle.net lobby to the ladder score screen and long custom games.
- Save game deciding moments like a Blademaster peon harass or a Death Coil save as clips right away.
- Use AI Voice Notes to turn custom game chatter into timeline text and see who called the defense first.
- Combine a Mountain King Storm Bolt chain, an ambush while creeping and a comeback against a bigger army into a hero fight reel.
- Paste a game link in Discord instead of a replay file so friends without Warcraft 3 can watch right away.
Before you record Warcraft 3: install and recording mode
Warcraft III: Reforged is a real time strategy game that is not demanding on hardware, so getting ready to record is simple. DOR is a free Windows app and never adds a watermark. Warcraft 3 uses full session recording, which means everything until you close the game becomes one video, whether you play several ladder games or hop between custom maps. On nights you play back to back, the recording runs for hours, so check recording long gameplay without stutter first. The table below lists what is worth knowing before you record Warcraft 3.
| Item | For Warcraft 3 | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install | DOR, free Windows app, no watermark | Nothing to set up each time you enter the Battle.net lobby |
| Game version | Warcraft III: Reforged on Windows PC | DOR records Warcraft 3 running on your Windows PC |
| Recording mode | Full session recording, one video from launch to exit | Ladder, custom games and custom maps all follow on, whatever the mode |
| Display mode | Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record | DOR switches to monitor capture where game capture is blocked |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30fps by default, 60fps available | Minimap and command card text stay sharp, and older PCs can use 720p/30fps mode |
| Replays | The replay viewer records like any other screen | Fast forwarding and camera changes end up on video too |
Record Warcraft 3 with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DORDownload DOR and install it. It takes about a minute and costs nothing. Once installed, leave DOR running. If you play custom games while chatting with friends over voice, check that your usual headset mic is connected.
- 2Launch Warcraft 3 and enter the Battle.net lobbyStart Warcraft III: Reforged and head into the Battle.net lobby. Recording begins as soon as DOR detects the game, so even the ladder queue or a custom game lobby filling up with players is captured.
- 3Confirm the recording is runningBefore your first game starts, glance at the DOR app to confirm recording is in progress. If the game is not picked up, follow what to do when the recorder does not detect your game. After that, focus on the match, whether you are creeping or sending out a scout.
- 4Save a clip right after a game deciding momentWhen your Blademaster wind walks into their base and shreds the peons, or a Death Coil saves your Lich at the last second, press the clip save shortcut right away. The moment is saved as its own clip, so you will not have to dig through a recording with several games in it.
- 5Close the game and open My ClipsWhen you are done for the night, close the game. The video with the lobby and every game, plus your saved clips, appear together in My Clips in the DOR app. Games you forgot to save a replay for are here as video too.
Find your recordings
Your recordings live in My Clips in the DOR app, also called the library. Each launch and exit of Warcraft 3 becomes one session, and anything you saved with the clip save shortcut appears as its own clip. In a recording with several games back to back, the score screen that appears with the result at the end of each match marks the boundary. Scrub quickly to find score screens and the recording splits into games. To find big fights inside a game, watch for hero portraits changing as heroes fall, followed by a revive at the altar. A fight trimmed to the instant a spell goes off does not explain why you won, so take one stretch from the army positions just before the clash until the enemy retreats or is wiped out. The minimap, hero portraits and command card run across the bottom of the screen, so export match scenes in 16:9, and save 9:16 and 1:1 for short clips that blow up a single moment. The full walkthrough is in how to trim game clips. Like the games you want to keep for good, such as a comeback win. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so your liked games stay put.
Save the moments you want to keep
Even though the whole session is recorded, saving the moment that decided a game as a clip on the spot makes it far easier to send to a friend the next day. Press the clip save shortcut and the last stretch of gameplay is saved as a clip. The default length is 30 seconds, and you can choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds in settings. In Warcraft 3, good times to press it are right after your Blademaster harass picks off workers and gets out, right after a Death Coil saves a hero, right after a Mountain King Storm Bolt chain cuts down an enemy hero, and right after a Human mass teleport saves your main base. Big army fights fit better at 60 seconds so the positions before the clash are included, while a single Storm Bolt is fine at 15. The moment you kill the final boss on a custom map can be saved the same way. Lengths and shortcut settings are covered in saving the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
Warcraft 3 custom games are never played in silence. Lines like 'Blademaster in my base, hide the peons', 'I'll take this creep camp, wait' and 'Boss wave next, everyone group up' come nonstop. DOR records game audio and your mic together, and AI Voice Notes writes your friends' chatter onto the recording timeline as text. Who called the defense first, and who grabbed the item and ran, is revealed the moment you find the line in the timeline text and select it to jump to the scene. You can also rewatch what happened right after someone yelled 'One potion left, backing off' in a 2v2 ladder game. If your group plays over a Discord call, see recording Discord call audio to capture that voice chat as well.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
Collect the clips you saved in each game and you get a reel built around hero fights. In the library, check the Blademaster peon harass, the Death Coil save, the Mountain King Storm Bolt chain, the ambush while creeping, the comeback against a bigger army and the custom map final boss, then select AI Highlight. DOR joins them into one montage. You can also sort by race for a Human mass teleport montage or an Undead Frost Nova collection. A comeback game lands better when you trim the rough stretch and the comeback fight separately and join them yourself; see how to merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Punch zoom the frame your hero's ultimate goes off and caption the race and hero level. A shake zoom on the clash of a big fight and glitch transitions between games give it the flow of a casted breakdown. Export the Reforged visuals in 16:9 as source footage for a replay analysis video, and pull short moments like a single Storm Bolt as a separate 9:16 Short. Export formats and ratios are covered in exporting clips. Download the finished video as an mp4 or share it as a link straight away.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send trimmed scenes as dor.gg links. Whoever opens the link plays the video right in the browser without the game or the app, so instead of passing w3g files around, paste the game link in Discord and even friends without Warcraft 3 can watch at once. Pick the clip for the person: early creeping for a ladder friend who plays the same race, the funny moments for the friends you played custom games with. Trim ranges and lengths for each match phase are covered in sharing Warcraft 3 match videos, and posting to Discord is covered in sharing clips on Discord.
Warcraft 3 recommended settings and troubleshooting
Warcraft III: Reforged is not demanding, so the default 1080p at 30fps already keeps units, the minimap and command card text sharp. Pick 60fps if you want unit movement in big fights to look smoother. On a laptop or an older PC, use the 720p/30fps mode, and see recording games on a low end PC for more settings. Fullscreen, windowed and borderless windows all record, so keep whatever display mode you already use. DOR uses GPU hardware encoding, so its effect on your frame rate during a match is small. The replay viewer records just like a live game, so you can play back an old match, move the camera around and build casting footage from it. DOR has no cheat features and never touches your game files or replay files.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is a black screen | The display mode in the game's settings | DOR records fullscreen, windowed and borderless alike. If it is still black, follow [fixing fullscreen recording](fullscreen-recording-not-working) to switch to monitor capture |
| Unit voices or your friends are missing | Your Windows output device and DOR audio settings | Check the device game audio plays through and your mic, then work through [fixing game recordings with no sound](game-recording-no-sound-fix) |
| You forgot to save the replay | That day's session in the library | DOR recorded the game, so find it by its score screen and trim it |
| You cannot find a game in a recording with several matches | Where the score screens are | Count one game per score screen, and save a clip right after important fights next time |
| A vertical crop hides what is happening | The export ratio | Export match scenes again in 16:9 so the minimap and command card are visible |
