Genshin Impact records automatically once DOR is installed: launch the game and the AI handles capture. Wherever you roam in Teyvat, from Mondstadt to Natlan, daily commissions, exploration, wishes and the Spiral Abyss all flow into one video from the moment you launch the game on PC until you close it. Genshin on PC has no built in video recording, so most players end up configuring an outside app like OBS. DOR starts recording when the game opens, with no scenes or sources to set up. Other recording methods and the OBS black screen issue are covered in how to record Genshin Impact on PC. This guide shows you how to record Genshin with DOR, a free Windows app, then save, trim and share moments like winning the 50/50 or three starring the Abyss.
- Keep Teyvat exploration, daily commissions and domains in one video, from Mondstadt to Natlan, without a record button.
- Save a won 50/50 wish animation or a full star Spiral Abyss clear as a clip right away.
- Use AI Voice Notes to turn wish day commentary and co op chatter into timeline text, so your pity count and reaction are on record together.
- Combine a vaporize nuke, a weekly boss kill and a hidden chest find into a journey video for this version.
- Prove your pulls and Abyss clears by posting them to Discord or a group chat with a dor.gg link.
Before you record Genshin Impact: install and recording mode
Genshin Impact is a GPU heavy open world action RPG. DOR is a free Windows app and never adds a watermark, so character animations stay clean on screen. Genshin uses full session recording, which means exploration, combat, wishes and story scenes are not split by activity but stay in one video until you close the game. Story scenes you skipped can be rewatched from the recording too. If PC game recording is new to you, read how to record PC games as well. The table below lists what is worth knowing before you record Genshin.
| Item | For Genshin Impact | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install | DOR, free Windows app, no watermark | No scenes or sources to configure like in OBS |
| Game version | Genshin Impact client on Windows PC | DOR records Genshin running on your PC |
| In game recording | The PC version has no video recorder | Photo mode in the Paimon menu only takes stills, so DOR keeps the video |
| Recording mode | Full session recording, one video from launch to exit | Exploration, wishes, domains and story scenes run together |
| Display mode | Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record | DOR switches to monitor capture where game capture is blocked |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30fps by default, 60fps available | GPU heavy game, so use the lighter 720p/30fps mode if it struggles |
Record Genshin Impact with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DORDownload DOR and install it. It takes about a minute and there is nothing to pay. Once installed, leave DOR running. If you want your wish reactions on record or plan to talk with friends in co op, check that your mic is connected.
- 2Launch Genshin ImpactStart Genshin on your PC and step through the door into Teyvat. Recording begins as soon as DOR detects the game, so the recording starts from the moment you appear at your last Teleport Waypoint.
- 3Confirm the recording is runningOnce you are in the open world, glance at the DOR app to confirm recording is in progress. If the game is not picked up, follow what to do when the recorder does not detect your game. From there, play as usual, whether you are running commissions or hunting for chests.
- 4Save a clip right after a wish or a clearWhen the golden meteor falls and the 5 star character or weapon reveal finishes, or when you clear the last chamber of the Spiral Abyss in time, press the clip save shortcut right away. The moment is saved as its own clip, so you will not have to find it in a long recording later.
- 5Close the game and open My ClipsWhen you are done for the day, close the game. That session's full video and your saved clips appear together in My Clips in the DOR app. Open the wish clip first and check that everything from the falling meteor to the result made it in.
Find your recordings
Your recordings live in My Clips in the DOR app, also called the library. Each launch and exit of Genshin becomes one session, and anything you saved with the clip save shortcut appears as its own clip. Even with commissions, domains and exploration in one video, Genshin gives you plenty of landmarks. For wishes, look for the falling meteor after you switch to the wish screen. For the Spiral Abyss, use the entry screen showing your party lineup and the clear result screen. For exploration, use the loading screen that appears when you teleport to a waypoint. Keep a wish clip short, 10 to 20 seconds from just before the meteor appears until the 5 star reveal ends, and trim one full Abyss floor from the entry screen to the result screen, which is exactly what a friend asking how you cleared it wants. Short moments like a wish suit 9:16 for phone viewers, while the Abyss and exploration need the edges of the screen, so 16:9 fits better, and 1:1 is there too. The full walkthrough is in how to trim game clips. Like the videos you want to keep for good, such as the wish where you won the 50/50. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so your liked moments stay put.
Save the moments you want to keep
Even though the whole session is recorded, saving moments like a wish animation as clips on the spot is much easier. Press the clip save shortcut and the last stretch of gameplay is saved as a clip. The default length is 30 seconds, and you can choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds in settings. In Genshin, good times to press it are right after a 5 star character or weapon reveal ends, right after you clear the last Spiral Abyss chamber with full stars, right after a vaporize or melt chain takes a big chunk out of a boss health bar, and right after a weekly boss goes down. A ten pull fits better at 30 or 45 seconds so the meteor and the result cards are both included, while a single Elemental Burst is fine at 15. The moment you solve a hidden chest puzzle can be saved the same way. Lengths and shortcut settings are covered in saving the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
Genshin gets you talking even when you play alone. Lines like 'Gold! Please be the rate up' on wish day, 'Apply Hydro first for vaporize' in co op and 'Ten seconds left on the Abyss timer' in the Spiral Abyss come out on their own. DOR records game audio and your mic together, and AI Voice Notes writes what you said onto the recording timeline as text. Your pity count and how you reacted end up recorded side by side. If you later want to rewatch the scene where you were stuck asking 'How do you solve this chest puzzle', find that line in the timeline text and select it to jump straight there. If your voice sounds quiet, check your input device in recording games with mic audio.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
A whole version update of travel deserves to live in one video. In the library, check the won 50/50, the Spiral Abyss full stars, the vaporize nuke, your first Teleport Waypoint in a new region, the weekly boss kill and the hidden chest you found, then select AI Highlight. DOR joins them into a montage of this version's journey, a good record to keep before the next update. To join clips by region or date yourself, see how to merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Punch zoom the frame where the Elemental Burst cut in plays, and shake zoom the moment a big damage number pops. Put your team comp and the reaction name on screen as text, add music, and you have a guide Short. Glitch transitions between exploration scenes add the feel of moving to a new region. Export wish animations and Bursts in 9:16 for Shorts, and keep a full Abyss floor in 16:9. Tips for keeping your character in frame when going vertical are in recording games for vertical Shorts. Download the finished video as an mp4 or share it as a link straight away.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send trimmed scenes as dor.gg links. Whoever opens the link plays the video right in the browser without the app, which makes it easy to post your wish results or Abyss clear to Discord as proof. Match the clip to the person: just the wish animation for a friend chasing the same character, a full floor for someone working on the Abyss with you, and exploration scenery for a friend who has never played. Lengths and ratios for each moment are covered in sharing Genshin Impact gameplay video, and posting to Discord is covered in sharing clips on Discord.
Genshin Impact recommended settings and troubleshooting
Genshin Impact is GPU heavy. Start with the default 1080p at 30fps and only move up to 60fps if your graphics card has room to spare. If the game struggles in fights where reaction effects fill the screen, switch to the 720p/30fps mode to cut the load. DOR uses GPU hardware encoding, so its effect on your in game frame rate is small, and if frames only drop while recording, work through fixing FPS drops while recording. Fullscreen, windowed and borderless windows all record, and where game capture is blocked, DOR switches to monitor capture. If fullscreen comes out black, see fixing fullscreen recording. DOR has no cheat features and never touches your game files or account data.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Fullscreen records as a black screen | Whether game capture is blocked, and your display mode | DOR switches to monitor capture when game capture is blocked. If it is still black, change the display mode in the game's settings and test again |
| Wish sounds or your voice are missing | Your Windows output device and DOR audio settings | Make sure the device you actually use is selected, then work through [fixing game recordings with no sound](game-recording-no-sound-fix) |
| Frames drop when reactions go off | Whether recording is set to 60fps, and graphics settings | Set recording back to 30fps or switch to 720p/30fps mode |
| Files get huge after long exploration | Recording resolution and free drive space | Keep the scenes you rewatch as clips and adjust settings with [reducing game recording file size](reduce-game-recording-file-size) |
| Worried a recorder could get your account banned | How DOR works | DOR only captures the screen, has no cheat features and does not modify game files or account data |
