Task Bar Hero records automatically once DOR is installed: launch the game and the AI handles the rest. TBH: Task Bar Hero is an idle RPG where your party fights on its own along a single strip above the taskbar, so many players leave it running while they work or study. DOR detects the game the moment you start it from Steam and keeps recording for as long as it is open, even while you are busy in other windows. That means the boss fight you missed and the rare gear that dropped mid meeting are both waiting in the recording. This guide covers installing DOR, confirming the recording, saving drops, finding scenes in long recordings, building a progression video and sharing it.
- Keep the fights your sorcerer and ranger have on the taskbar on video for as long as the game stays open.
- Save brag worthy moments like your first boss kill, a rare gear drop or a new pet joining as separate clips.
- Use AI Voice Notes to find build talk such as 'take the rune tree on this side' and jump to that moment.
- Condense days of idling, from the first boss to unlocking a higher tier, into one short progression video.
- Post a rare drop to Reddit or Discord with a single dor.gg link as proof of the loot.
Before you record Task Bar Hero: install and recording mode
Task Bar Hero is light on hardware, so recording runs without much load. DOR is a free Windows app and never adds a watermark. Because it is an idle game, you will usually leave it open far longer than other games, and full session recording turns all of that time into one video. If you plan to leave it running for half a day, read recording long gameplay without stutter first and decide when you actually want recording on. The table below lists what is worth knowing before your first Task Bar Hero recording.
| Item | For Task Bar Hero | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install | DOR, free Windows app | No watermark on your videos |
| Game version | TBH: Task Bar Hero on PC, launched from Steam | DOR detects the game automatically when it opens |
| Recording mode | Full session recording | One video for as long as the game is open, even while you work in other windows |
| Per game recording toggle | Turn Task Bar Hero on or off in DOR settings | Handy if you only want recording while you sort gear yourself |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30fps by default | 60fps is available, plus a lighter 720p/30fps mode |
| Storage | About 30MB for a 30 second 1080p clip | Leave plenty of free space on days the game stays open all day |
Record Task Bar Hero with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DORDownload DOR and install it. Setup takes about a minute and the app is free. Leave DOR running afterwards. Even if you open the game the moment you start work, there is no record button to press.
- 2Launch Task Bar Hero from SteamStart TBH: Task Bar Hero from Steam and choose your party. Recording begins as soon as DOR detects the game, so the hero selection screen at the start of the video is expected.
- 3Check that recording is runningWhen the first fight starts on the taskbar, glance at the DOR app once to confirm the recording is in progress. If the game is not picked up, follow what to do when the recorder does not detect your game. After that, recording continues even while you work in other windows.
- 4Clip drops and boss killsWhen a boss goes down and drops rare gear, open the item details for a few seconds and then press the clip save shortcut. The last 30 seconds are stored as a separate clip, so you will not have to hunt for that moment in hours of footage.
- 5Quit and open My ClipsClose the game at the end of the day, and the full session video plus every clip you saved appear together in My Clips in the DOR app. The boss your party beat during a meeting is right there in the recording.
Find your recordings
Your recordings live in My Clips in the DOR app, also called the library. Each time you open and close Task Bar Hero becomes one session, and anything you saved with the clip save shortcut appears as its own clip. Idle sessions run long, so the most reliable clue is a quick note of the clock time when you spot a rare drop. Later, move the playhead near that time and you are there. When you enter a new act or raise the difficulty, trim both the moment before and the moment after so the change is visible. Set a start and an end point, then export as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. The full walkthrough is in how to trim game clips. Like the videos you want to keep, such as the first top tier drop. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so liked videos stay.
Save the moments you want to keep
Even though recording runs the whole time the game is open, saving moments like a drop on the spot makes them much easier to find. Press the clip save shortcut and the last stretch of play becomes a clip. The default length is 30 seconds, and you can pick 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds in settings. In Task Bar Hero, good moments to press it are right after rare gear drops, right after you finish a rune tree, and right after a new pet joins the party. Breaking through a stage that stalled you after changing your team comp takes a little longer, so set the clip length to 45 or 60 seconds. To change the shortcut, see saving the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
When you and a friend each leave Task Bar Hero running on a call, build talk flows: 'adding a priest really keeps them alive', 'take the rune tree on this side', 'farm soul stones and push the next tier'. DOR records game audio and your microphone together, and AI Voice Notes writes that conversation onto the recording timeline as text. If you cannot remember where you agreed to put runes or which pet you meant to swap in, find the line in the timeline text and select it to jump to the scene. Your 'boss just dropped gear, look' is on record too, which makes the drop easy to find again. For calls on Discord, see recording Discord call audio.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
Days of progression look like the same fight on repeat if you watch them straight through. In the library, check your clips of the first boss kill, the rare gear drop, the finished rune tree, the breakthrough after a team change, the new pet joining and the move into a higher tier, then select AI Highlight. DOR joins them into one montage of big growth on a tiny strip of screen. Ending on your finished build mowing down a wave works well. To set the order yourself, see how to merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Task Bar Hero fights happen on a thin strip at the bottom of the screen, so a punch zoom on that area makes them readable on a phone. Add a shake zoom when a boss falls, a glitch transition where the stage changes, and text noting your team comp and rune choices, and you have a build guide. Export 9:16 or 1:1 for Shorts and chat apps; framing tips are in recording games for vertical Shorts. Download the result as an mp4 or share it as a link right away.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send trimmed moments as dor.gg links. Whoever opens the link plays it in the browser without installing anything, which makes it ideal for loot brags on Reddit or Discord. A drop only needs 10 to 20 seconds showing the drop and the item details, and 1:1 is easiest to watch on a phone in a group chat. Tips on picking scenes from long idle recordings are in sharing Task Bar Hero loot videos.
Task Bar Hero recommended settings and troubleshooting
Task Bar Hero is fairly light, so recording runs smoothly even at minimum spec. Pixel art fights look sharp at the default 1080p and 30fps, and 60fps makes skill effects smoother. If the game sits open all day on a work PC, the 720p/30fps mode lowers both the load and the file size. Because recordings get long, see reducing game recording file size, and if you want recordings on a roomier drive, move them with changing the recording save location. DOR uses GPU hardware encoding, so it stays light on the other programs you are working in. DOR has no cheat features and never touches game files or play data.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is a black screen | How the game window is displayed | DOR records fullscreen, windowed and borderless alike. If it is still black, follow [fixing fullscreen recording](fullscreen-recording-not-working) to switch to monitor capture. |
| Sound effects are missing | Your Windows output device and DOR audio settings | Confirm which device game audio plays through, then work through [fixing game recordings with no sound](game-recording-no-sound-fix). |
| Files get large after a full day open | Recording resolution and per game recording | Drop to 720p/30fps mode, or turn on full session recording for this game only while you play actively. |
| The tiny fight strip is unreadable on a phone | Export ratio and zoom | Add a punch zoom on the fight area in DOR Studio and export 1:1 or 9:16. |
| Worried a recorder could affect your account | How DOR works | DOR only captures the screen, has no cheat features and does not modify game files or play data. |
