HELLDIVERS 2 records automatically once DOR is installed: launch the game and the AI takes care of the rest. You never have to remember a record button before climbing into a Hellpod or draw a capture area. DOR detects the game and keeps one continuous video covering the moment you pick a mission on the Super Destroyer bridge, the drop to the planet, every stratagem strike and the final scramble onto the Pelican. When you quit, the recording ends too. In HELLDIVERS 2 the best moments come as often from a 500kg bomb taking half the squad with it as from a clean kill, so this guide focuses on pulling those moments out of long recordings quickly. It walks through installing DOR, saving moments, finding squad callouts, building a montage, sharing a link, and recommended settings and fixes for a GPU heavy game.
- Keep several operations in a row in one video, from choosing a mission on the bridge to the Pelican door closing.
- Save the moment a 500kg bomb cleared a Terminid bug hole and the squadmate standing next to it with the clip save shortcut.
- Use AI Voice Notes to find the point someone yelled "Laser's down, get out of there" and settle who threw it.
- Combine a Bile Titan kill, a Factory Strider takedown and a friendly fire disaster into one video cut like a war film.
- Turn a team kill into a 9:16 Short and send it to your squad Discord with a dor.gg link.
Before you record HELLDIVERS 2: install and recording mode
DOR records the Windows PC version of HELLDIVERS 2 that you launch through Steam. DOR is a free Windows app and never puts a watermark on your videos. It uses full session recording, so the file is not split at the end of each mission; the time you spend back on the bridge picking the next one stays in the same video until you quit. Even three operations back to back have no recording time limit. HELLDIVERS 2 is heavy on the GPU with all its airstrikes, so check the resolution and frame rate row in the table below first. For the general routine of recording PC games, read how to record PC games.
| Item | For HELLDIVERS 2 | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Install | DOR, free Windows app | No watermark on your videos |
| Game version | Windows PC version on Steam | Detected automatically when the game launches |
| Recording mode | Full session recording | Bridge, drop, mission and extraction stay in one video until you quit |
| Display mode | Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record | Switches to monitor capture where game capture is blocked |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 30fps by default, 60fps available | GPU heavy, so recommended spec or above is steadiest; the lightest setting is 720p/30fps mode |
| Audio | Game audio and microphone recorded together | Explosions, squad screams and reactions all land in the same video |
| Storage | About 30MB for a 30 second 1080p clip | Back to back operations make big files, so leave plenty of free space |
Record HELLDIVERS 2 with DOR: step by step
- 1Install DORDownload and install DOR. It takes about a minute and is free. Leave DOR running once it is installed. If your squad plans a run at a high difficulty tonight, get this done before you log in.
- 2Launch HELLDIVERS 2Start HELLDIVERS 2 from Steam. DOR begins recording as soon as it detects the game, so it is normal for the recording to start on the Super Destroyer bridge looking at the Galactic War map.
- 3Check that recording is runningBefore you pick your first mission, glance at the DOR app once to confirm recording is in progress. If the game is not picked up, follow what to do when the recorder does not detect your game. After that, climb into your Hellpod and drop as usual.
- 4Save the clip right after the disasterWhen an Eagle Airstrike lands on your squad or you put a rocket into a Bile Titan's mouth, press the clip save shortcut as soon as the explosions settle. The last 30 seconds are saved as a separate clip, so you never have to dig through a long mission video.
- 5Quit and open My ClipsRide the Pelican back to the bridge and quit. The full session video and every clip you saved appear together in My Clips in the DOR app. Missions you extracted from and missions that ended in a full wipe are kept the same way.
Find your recordings
Your recordings live in My Clips in the DOR app, also called the library. Each time you open and close HELLDIVERS 2 becomes one session, and moments you saved during missions show up as separate clips. To find a particular mission inside a session, use the Hellpod drop from the bridge to the planet as your landmark. Every drop marks the start of a new mission, and the Pelican lifting off marks its end. Set a start and an end point to trim just the part you need, then export as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. Trimming tips are in how to trim game clips, and if you want recordings on another drive, see changing the recording save location. Like the friendly fire clips the whole squad laughed at. When space fills up, older videos you have not liked are cleared first, so liked ones stay put.
Save the moments you want to keep
Even with the whole mission recorded, saving a moment as a clip on the spot makes it far easier to find. Press the clip save shortcut and the last stretch of gameplay is saved as a clip. The default length is 30 seconds, and you can choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds in settings. In HELLDIVERS 2, good times to press it are right after a 500kg bomb wipes out a bug hole, right after an Eagle Airstrike hits your own team, right after a Factory Strider goes down, and right after you dive into the Pelican just before the door shuts. Friendly fire usually lasts ten seconds or so, so 15 seconds is plenty, but an Automaton dropship rain or the last stand while you wait for extraction flows better at 60 seconds. To pick the right length for each kind of moment, see saving the last few seconds instantly.
Find what was said with AI Voice Notes
Voice chat in HELLDIVERS 2 is half callouts and half screaming. Lines like "Charger, shoot the legs", "Laser's down, get out of there", "Reinforce me, I died again" and "Pelican's landing, who has the samples" never stop. DOR records game audio and your microphone together, and AI Voice Notes writes what was said onto the recording timeline as text. When the squad argues over who threw the Orbital Laser where, search the timeline text for "laser" and select it to jump straight to that scene. Finally, there is evidence. If your squad meets in a Discord voice channel, check your device settings with recording Discord call audio.
Build a montage with AI Highlight
Friendly fire disasters belong in the same video as Bile Titan kills. In the library, check a 500kg on a bug hole, a rocket into a Bile Titan's mouth, the Eagle Airstrike on the squad, a Factory Strider takedown and the dive into the Pelican as it lifts, then select AI Highlight. The funny and heroic moments roll together into one montage. Check them in order from drop to extraction and a single mission plays out like a war film. If you would rather set the clip order yourself, see how to merge game clips.
Edit in DOR Studio
DOR Studio opens in your browser with nothing to install. Cut the long walks between objectives and add a shake zoom on the frame where the orbital lands. Add a line of Super Earth propaganda text and some background music, and it plays like a recruitment ad. A punch zoom at the end of a friendly fire clip and a glitch transition between planets keep the pace up. Export friendly fire compilations as 9:16 Shorts and full mission recaps as 16:9. Framing tips for vertical video are in recording games for vertical Shorts. When you are done, download an mp4 or share it as a link straight away.
Share with a dor.gg link
Send trimmed moments as dor.gg links. Whoever opens the link plays the video right in the browser without installing anything, so posting it in Discord means the squad you just dropped with can rewatch the disaster before the next Hellpod launch. It is just as easy to send to randoms from quickplay or to friends who do not play at all. Tips on picking friendly fire and extraction moments to send are in sharing HELLDIVERS 2 gameplay videos, and posting to Discord is covered in sharing clips on Discord.
HELLDIVERS 2 recommended settings and troubleshooting
HELLDIVERS 2 layers airstrikes on top of huge enemy swarms, which makes it GPU heavy, so recommended spec hardware or better keeps both your in game frame rate and the recording stable. Recording runs at 1080p and 30fps by default, and if your PC has headroom, raise it to 1080p at 60fps for smoother explosions. For the lightest possible load, pick 720p/30fps mode instead. DOR uses GPU hardware encoding, so its effect on your frame rate is small. If the stutter only happens while recording, see fixing FPS drops while recording, and if you record for hours across back to back operations, read recording long gameplay without stutter. Fullscreen, windowed and borderless all record, and where anti cheat blocks game capture, DOR switches to monitor capture. DOR has no cheat features and never touches your game files or play data.
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The recording is a black screen | The in game display mode and capture method | All three display modes record. If it is still black, follow [fixing fullscreen recording](fullscreen-recording-not-working) to switch to monitor capture. |
| Explosions are recorded but your voice is missing | Your Windows input device and DOR mic settings | Pick the mic you actually use again and work through [fixing a mic that is not recording](mic-not-recording-fix). |
| Frame rate drops during big airstrikes | Recording frame rate and in game graphics options | Keep recording at 30fps or drop to 720p/30fps mode, and set in game options to match the recommended spec. |
| Back to back operations make huge files | Recording resolution and free drive space | Save the scenes you will rewatch as clips and like only the videos you want to keep. |
| Worried a recorder could affect your account | How DOR works | DOR only captures the screen, has no cheat features and does not modify game files or play data. |
